To Frederick, With Gratitude
By: Susan Summers
Dear Frederick,
2023 has been an incredible year: from special events, grand openings, and new opportunities to give back, there’s been so much to celebrate, and we’ve enjoyed the ride! Here’s a just a little recap of our 75th year in Frederick:
We began the year with a reintroduction of our Em(brace)let program, which began in 2020 as a way to raise funds and awareness for organizations that mean and do so much for the Frederick community. Originally a limited-time release, a full restock of each charity’s bracelet was made, so that these organizations can receive even more love. We will periodically launch a new bracelet, and that organization will receive 100% of the proceeds.
In May, we brought back the Downtown Frederick Wedding Walk, which gave couples the chance to meet wedding vendors and win special prizes towards their big day! The cake dig was certainly the highlight of the day with participants eagerly digging for the grand prize in a gorgeous multi-tiered cake by Sage Cakery.
On May 24th, Colonial Jewelers celebrated its 75th anniversary in style by hosting an event for all of Frederick at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. It was a beautiful tribute to all who have made Colonial Jewelers what it is today, and a look to the future with Sarah Hurwitz Robey officially taking the helm from her parents, Jeff and Patty Hurwitz.
After a lengthy renovation, a new thriving arts complex at 1-11 North Market Street was opened in late May. Featuring local artists and eventually a tribute to Albert Hurwitz, a lifelong arts aficionado and Chair Emeritus in Art Education at MICA, this art gallery and artist studio space opens many doors for Frederick’s talented artists.
In September, Jeff, Patty, and Sarah began the First Responder First Fridays where they are serving free lunch as a huge thank you to all Frederick County First Responders for all their hard work and dedication to our community.
We ended September with our first exclusive Crown Club After-Hours Event. Club members received a sneak peek at our Anniversary Sale and enjoyed special giveaways. If you haven’t joined, sign up today to receive member-only offers and events!
As we look forward to the holiday season, we feel extremely grateful for all of you who have made our story possible. To the city that has stood with us through natural disasters, financial recessions, and global pandemics: thank you. To the community that loves and supports our endeavors to be involved and to give back: thank you.
And now there’s just one more thank you to give:
Thank YOU for helping us celebrate 75 years in Frederick this year! Our staff has hidden a gift wrapped surprise throughout Frederick County (not just downtown!!) and it’s all yours when you find it. Finders Keepers - no strings attached! If you do find one of our boxes, follow the instructions on the tag to be entered to win the grand prize, if you wish! Good luck!
With love,
Colonial Jewelers
