To include your fiancée to be, or not: that is the question!
One of the most frequently asked questions we get from couples today is whether or not to include the future fiancée in the engagement ring process. One of the major concerns is that it detracts from the element of surprise – she will know it’s coming and what the ring looks like. To help with this and a few other frequently asked questions, I’ve asked our sales associates for their take on how to navigate this special purchase.
I’m not sure what she would want for an engagement ring – she wears lots of different styles.
Begin by talking about her preferences: does she like yellow, white, or rose gold? Diamond or gemstone? Simple or ornate?
No matter her preferences, we have it all! You can custom design your ring, choose a loose diamond and setting, or select one of our ready-made engagement rings. We welcome you to browse our selection, consult with our expert staff, and try on as many styles as you’d like. That’s the beauty of visiting our showroom: you can see the brilliance of the stone and feel the quality of the pieces in person. Our staff knows just how to determine her style preferences based on any inspiration photos you may have, or just by telling us a little about her!
How much should I plan to spend on the ring?
Discuss your priorities in budget: would they prefer a larger center stone, or more elaborate setting – or both? With a wedding around the corner, it’s good to be on the same page as far as prioritizing certain aspects of the engagement ring. Surely you’ve done a lot of research up front. Nevertheless, we are ready to answer all of your questions and educate you on how and when to make your purchase, so that you have everything you need for your big day!
I have no idea what her finger size is.
And that’s okay! We recommend ordering what’s considered a “stock size,” which is usually a 6.5 or 7. That way you can propose with the ring and if it doesn’t quite fit, our in-house master jeweler will size it complimentary for you. Plus we have a few gifts for you both to celebrate your engagement!
How do I remember what she likes when I want to purchase the ring?
Whether you come into our showroom together, or she comes with a few of her friends to get style ideas, we will take all the notes for you. Design, metal preference, stone shape, finger size — we will notate it all, so that it’s an easy process when you come for your appointment to make the purchase.
I want to propose on a certain date. How far in advance do I need to start the process?
The short answer is the earlier the better. We have a stunning selection of ready-to-go engagement rings if you're on a time crunch, but if there are very specific design elements you are looking for, the lead time could be up to six weeks to special order the setting, or eight weeks for a custom design. Book an appointment today to get started!
I don’t know... I’m still undecided whether including her in the process would blow my cover.
Sales Associate Carla says it best: “shopping together (at least at the first appointment) shows the couple working together on something. Why not start with the ring that will be on her hand the rest of her life?”
