Diamond Upgrades

Diamond Upgrades

By: Susan Summers

Just as your love grows throughout a healthy marriage, why shouldn’t your diamond engagement ring? The post holiday months are the perfect time to take advantage of our excellent diamond selection as well as avoiding the rush of the spring engagement season. What could be more romantic than dinner plans downtown preceded by a surprise stop at Colonial Jewelers?

When considering a diamond upgrade, there are two key decisions to be made:

  1. The size of your new diamond
  2. Will you keep the setting the same, or select a new design?

The Process

Consider the size of the diamond that you’re looking for.

Book an appointment to visit our showroom to take a look at our current diamond selections.

During your visit, the sales associate will show you a couple of diamonds that match the specifications that you are seeking. They will also inspect your current ring in order to see if we can change the head (the part of the ring that holds the center stone), or if you’ll need to select a new setting. You may also indicate that you’d like to see what’s new just in case!

Once you’ve selected a diamond, if you decide to keep your setting, we will provide you with the cost of replacing the head to accommodate your new stone as well as a full refinish that will integrate the new head seamlessly and make your ring look like new! This process generally takes just three weeks, and includes the appraisal of your ring.

If you’ve decided to select a new setting, we will inform you of the timeframe to order the new setting as well as set and appraise the new ring. This can range from 4-8 weeks depending on the designer.

Helpful Tips, especially if you’re planning a surprise upgrade:

  1. Ask her if her ring fits her well. Does she struggle on certain days to remove her rings? Before completing the work to her existing ring, we want to make sure we take care of sizing, if needed.
  2. Plan ahead if you have a specific date to present the ring. We will need to allow 4-6 weeks for the setting to arrive from the designer and then an additional 1-2 weeks to set your new diamond and appraise your new ring for insurance purposes.
